Achillea millefolium (White Yarrow) is a perennial wildflower that produces an abundance of huge, flat clusters of flowers. The flowers, leaves, and stems of the yarrow plant are used as medicine. Yarrow is collected while in bloom. Yarrow easily multiplies and is best suited for planters or pots.
A few scientific studies have looked at yarrow as an herbal medicine. Traditionally, it was applied to the skin for wounds and minor bleeding or taken by mouth to reduce inflammation, especially in the digestive tract or taken as a sedative to relieve anxiety or insomnia.
Today, yarrow is sometimes suggested (although there is a lack of scientific evidence) for the loss of appetite, indigestion or heartburn. Also used as a diuretic, to increase urine flow, Used for Amenorrhea (irregular menstrual cycle), menstrual cramps and pain, muscle spasms and inflammation. Used to fight infection, remedy a fever (brings temperature down through sweating), used to reduce bleeding and aid in wound healing. If you are allergic to plants in the aster family (chrysanthemums, daisies, and ragweed), you may be allergic to yarrow, either taken by mouth or applied to the skin. We just grow plants, so ask your healthcare professional if Yarrow is right for you.
